5 Most Common Textile Pattern Repeats

Full Drop

This is one of the most common and simplest form of pattern repeat often known as full drop or block pattern repeat. This repeat is created by placing original motif in a grid format.

Half Drop

The half drop repeat consists of the repeat unit stacked vertically in a columns which is then offset by the half of original unit in the next vertical row, which makes design patterns to look less formal.

Diamond Pattern

A diamond surface pattern repeat is simply created with a repeating diamond shape this therefore results in the elements being arranged in diagonal rows.

Brick Pattern

Brick pattern repeat is very similar to half drop repeat except instead of the repeat unit stacked vertically it is stacked horizontally. The repeat unit is then offset by half in the next horizontal row creating a brick wall pattern.

Random Pattern

In a random surface pattern repeat, the elements of the design are scattered within the repeat unit. The unstructured nature of a random repeat results in a very organic and non-linear design.
